This is a challenge made to me by Duchess Rebekah MacTiernan to document and produce an object that has inspired me on my journey in the Arts and Sciences within the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).
This is a difficult thing for me to accomplish. I really enjoy making “all the things”, yet have a difficult time doing the sit-down research on anything. I will spend a minimal amount of time looking up information to determine if there are any items related to what I am making, but actual research…. yeah, not so much.
However, I know that research and documentation is a thing to help not only me, but others, to understand what is being made, how it was made in some time period, how I am going about producing a similar item, and how the item may have been used.
Chosen Project
The project I have finally decided upon researching, documenting, and making; after much dithering; is a beaker made by the late neolithic, early bronze age people known as the Bell Beaker people.
